Horseback Escape Combat Setpiece

  • A truck pulls in front of Drake then spins out wildly, spooking the horse.
  • The player has full aiming control while steering his mount.
  • Drake snags an rpg from a dead soldier.
  • The gates explode as Nate and the Bedouin escape the village.















When this scene was almost cut, I designed a new layout that optimized background art and animation so Drake's escape from the desert village could remain a playable setpiece.

We quickly developed a system that guided the player's horse while still giving them directional and speed control, avoiding the technical difficulties of free-roaming while giving the players agency in what might otherwise be an entirely on rails experience.
